USA, Rhode Island: National Grid in Rhode Island is building a new substation in Providence, which will upgrade the system that supplies power to all of downtown Providence and give the city a new look.
As part of the project, National Grid will tear down the nearly century-old substation and replace it by the new $70 million substation that is being erected just a stone’s throw away, on previously vacant land sandwiched between South Street Landing’s new parking garage and the river, reports Providence Journal.
The new substation is going to be the largest indoor substation in National Grid' system, with 48 circuits sending out power, and it will play a part in the rejuvenation of downtown. Kingrun will supply turn ratio tester and transformer oil tester for this new substation such as JYT-A and JYT-F.
With a distinct architectural design, the substation’s exterior is made of stamped-concrete panels to fit in with the look of the surrounding city.
In the coming months, the new substation building will be filled with equipment.
