How to ensure the safety of partial discharge detector?

Partial discharge is an electrical discharge in the insulation medium, this discharge is only limited to a part of the measured medium and only makes the insulation between the conductors partially bridged, this discharge may occur or may not occur in some weak parts of the insulation of the adjacent power equipment of the conductor, under the action of the strong electric field local discharge is a common problem in high-voltage insulation. Although partial discharge generally does not cause penetrating breakdown of insulation, it can lead to dielectrics, especially organic dielectrics, local damage, if partial discharge exists for a long time, under certain conditions, it will lead to insulation deterioration or even breakdown to power equipment.

Partial discharge test can not only understand the insulation status of the equipment, but also find many manufacturing and installation problems in time, and determine the cause and severity of insulation failure. Therefore, the partial discharge test of power equipment is an important preventive test in the manufacture and operation of power equipment, and China's national standards and the International Electrotechnical Commission have put forward corresponding specifications for this, and partial discharge detection technology is rapidly developing in this context

partial discharge detectors are favored for their high sensitivity, wide detection range, and more importantly, ease of operation. So how do we ensure the safety of partial discharge detectors?

First, the voltage of the partial discharge tester is as high as tens of thousands of volts, so the relevant testers must strictly abide by the safety precautions. Make sure the test area has obvious warning signs so that anyone on site knows where the high pressure area is. No one is allowed to enter the high-pressure zone during the test.

Second, whether it is the operation of the partial discharge detector or regular maintenance, it must be a competent professional, and other people who do not understand the partial discharge detector will never come into contact with the instrument. This is not only for the service life of the instrument, but also to ensure everyone's personal safety.

Third, before using the partial discharge detector for testing, the user should master the test method, test procedure and test purpose and keep it in mind, which is very important for the test.

4. The place where the detector is used for testing must be kept clean and tidy, and other items unrelated to the test must not be stored. In particular, there should be no metal fragments on the ground in high-pressure areas.

5. The surface of the test object, step-up transformer and coupling capacitor should be kept dry and clean. If there is moisture or dirt on the surface, it is easy to cause partial discharge, resulting in abnormal measurement.

Most importantly, in order for the local release detector to play a greater role in the test and make the entire measurement process smoother, the user must firmly grasp the above key points to ensure the safety of the local release detector, but it can also extend its service life to a certain extent.
